HOW TO WIN THE MIDDLE CLASS?

The Bolivarian Revolution -since its beginnings- has looked for an answer, implementing every type of incentives to captivate the petty bourgeoisie, the middle class... the result is modest, the middle class is still working irrationally against us and it erodes our natural social base. Let’s review

The intention of winning the love of this social stratum with material praising has failed. The polls affirm it. If it is a class that is not hit in its economy, in its daily live: Why it is working against us? If it is still consuming, it is still vacationing: why does it prefer to wash cars in Miami?

The answer lies in the psyche, in the spiritual; there is where the combat takes place. Oligarch’s leaders have the intelligence to create fictitious tyrants, false loss of liberties, false shortages, fragmenting society, proposing individual selfish solutions, terrorizing and then presenting absurd to relieve the panic.

That is how a candidate for municipality mayor proposes to make his municipality a "safety island", isolating it from the rest of humanity, and so the neighbors can breathe peacefully. It is likely that this absurd egoism raised the most, wins elections.

This candidate has what the instruments of deformation sow in the soul of society: egoism. That is the center of the battle: selfishness against the sense of society, against love.

Within Revolution, we have made the mistake of avoiding this battle field, we merely flatter the middle class, fighting only in the material, and we ignore the battle for the spirit of the middle class.

We must demonstrate two important points:

First, we must show the impossibility of continue living how capitalism imposes us. We cannot live a wasting while others live in misery, and everyone damaging nature. It is clear that if the capitalist aggression against nature continues, the minimum conditions for life will disappear and its extinction will come, but before that the war of “all against all” will reach the unheard.

Second, we have to show the benefits of Socialism as the only way to get a peaceful and happy atmosphere for this generation and future generations. Only the integrated societies that function as one self will be able to deal successfully the potential difficulties ahead.

The dilemma is clear: if we continue flattering the middle class with material privileges, the results will be minimal, and during the attempt we will lose “chavista” social base. Now, if we take the path of conviction, a call of conscience, then we will have the opportunity to break the though shell of rejection in the middle class.

The revolutionary system of the media of ideas must be understood as the instruments of a war that has been staged in the soul of society. We cannot keep battling with the same methods, the same spots that were used at the beginning of last century, it is necessary to understand advertising as a matter for specialists and not as a whim. Let’s spread Socialism with the passion of the cast away.

FRATERNITY AND CLASS STRUGGLE

Insistently Revolution and Commander Chavez are accused of being promoters of hatred between brothers, of disintegration of society, of being sowers of discord and promoters of class struggle. Is this true? Let's see.

Society, as we know it, is divided into classes, and this division is not a whim, nor will of humans, it is a product of economic relations, it happens beyond wishes. However, the divided society lives in a constant class struggle. The excluded classes, deprived, exploited, express their disagreement, their discomfort, their rebellion, in different ways, from crime, the struggle for wages, popular demonstrations, songs, to art, philosophy, etc...

When that class struggle rises to a struggle for the seizing of power, from there it develops different projects of society and nation; then, the class struggle makes politics. If as a product of that political struggle, there is a displacement of the ruling classes that used to appropriate of the social wealth, then a period where there are possibilities to develop a project of a different country opens up, we are speaking -in this case- of a revolutionary period.

In Venezuela, with the arrival to power of Commander Chavez, a revolutionary period makes its way. It is understood that the class struggle has always existed, but only now is expressing politically, with the possibility of imposing a project of society different to the exploitative capitalist project. Let’s consider the struggling projects.

On one hand, there is the globalization capitalist project promoted by the empire, its best example is the trade agreement with Mexico, creator of such levels of poverty that is necessary the construction of a modern Chinese wall that isolates the United States of the miserable whose system has created.

On the other hand, there is the project of the Bolivarian and Christian Socialism advocated by Commander Chavez. A project whose object is to integrate society, rebuild the social relationships based on love, build a society where nobody takes ownership of the wealth that belongs to all, that nobody lives within the opulence at the expense of appropriating the social wealth, that nobody is excluded, in short, that man stop being the wolf’s man.

It is clear that the revolutionary project is a project of true peace, peace with justice. It is a project of inclusion, that does not discriminate, where everyone have room for all who want to collaborate in the building of a world where the individual stop being an orphan in a desert of selfishness.

THE SOCIAL COMPENSATION

Capitalism produced a huge social debt, it plunged society into the material and spiritual misery: hunger, exclusion from all the benefits and from opportunities that covered the majorities.

Socialism must pay that debt; it is a duty and a necessity. However, it is impossible to pay the social debt only materially, it is indispensable or risk that everything will collapse, building new relationships -now loving- between these men along with nature, building a new world where there is no appropriation of another's work, as Marti said: "everyone fight for the benefit of all".

Everyone for the benefit of all, which is a great summary of what Socialism is. But, how do we implement it? What are the main points governing its construction?

The classic writers left us the pillar of theory, which is indispensable for the construction of Socialism: "From each one according to his/her ability, to each one according to his/her needs". This precept has its roots within the early Christianity, the one that Christ left us in his sermons, in community life.

The Bolivarian Revolution on its road towards Socialism must adapt to its reality to the universal Socialist theory, which is the result of centuries of human struggles to free from the selfish monster that it created himself.

Revolution must start from reality of rentier country, with distortions in our economy and our social behavior, where richness comes from the income instead of coming from work. Politics in these hundred years of oil revenues has been marked by this situation. The oil compensation, the distribution of income, ranks the governments: "who distributes more is better". During prosperity the government is sympathetic; when the incomes are low the government is struggling.

The leftovers of oil incomes gave stability to the governments, the people drugged of consumerism were sinking in the spiritual and material misery. Patronage was the opium of the people, the gifts muffled any protest.

This material and spiritual structure must be demolished, it is necessary to remedy the material lacks, and especially to replace the spirituality that used to hold that evil shell. This is where the theoretical pillar of Socialism becomes important. Let's see.

By giving each one according to his/her needs, a house, access to health, education, etc.., we are compensating for the social debt within the material.

By demanding each one according to his/her ability, giving back what it was received, compensating for society the benefit that this gives to it, we are creating social awareness, creating the Awareness of Social Duty.

Any benefit for society -through the State- given to the individual must be compensated with work, according to its capacity. The benefits that society gives are not an economic transaction; it is an exchange of affection and love.

THE PLOUGH AND THE SEA

The Liberator, at some point in his life, realized that something was missing, the dream was unconcluded, practice did not had the desired end, reality had not changed, or it had changed towards the mistake, the expected benefits were not gotten, practice was not enough and a thousand of victorious battles failed to change the world.

We know little of his deliberations in those sad days when he emerged defeated and even used by an oligarchy that reproduced the essence of the old. However, his last words overlook the anguish of his mornings:

He exclaimed, "I have ploughed the sea!" The plough, the practice could not change reality, the sea. Something was missing, it was not for the lack of courage, dedication or effort offered up to the Motherland ... What had gone wrong? Why, why..?

He denounced "they abused of your credulity". He attributed the conduct of the glorious people, liberator of a thousand battles, of all the sacrifices, the conqueror of adversity, to the manipulation of the oligarchies, and finishes off by saying: ... "They trod what I hold most sacred, my reputation and my love for freedom”.

The Liberator’s work was unfinished, Marti says: "...what he left undone, nowadays is still undone: because Bolivar still has to do in America".

The wait is over. They returned to the days of Independence, in San Pedro Alejandrino the dream was not buried. Now we have elements, we know how to "Plough the sea and be successful".

We know that the practice (plowing) with which we want to change reality (the sea) should be guided by theory, the connection that gives meaning to practice. Modification of reality cannot go beyond the theory that supports the practice.

The Liberator went as far as theory of that time and the conditions of a colony allowed him. The ideology was born of the French Revolution, which had as a limit the goals of the bourgeoisie, which quickly became conservative, crushing the Haitian Rebellion, exploiting the European workers and colonizing the world. The Liberator prophesied the hypocrisy of the bourgeoisie that was building a new domination, he concluded: "the United States seems destined by providence to plague America with shame in the name of freedom”.

Bolivar still lives among us, he dreamed beyond his time, with his spirit passed through the centuries, he was a leader of the future, his thought is valid, and his goals are the goals of today.

Now we have the theory to overcome the bourgeois revolution, we can go where Bolivar wanted; we can conquer the greatest happiness, we can finish with men-merchandise, we can found a new world. We have a theory that guides practice. Humanity in two hundred years has brought forth the ideas that guide the plough. We know what to do; we have new weapons and we know the jagged weapons. There are no excuses, this time San Pedro Alejandrino will not be repeated, we will sow at sea, and we will make Revolution.

The board of fascism works on the edge of legality, from there, in that twilight zone tempts the government, it challenges the law, it is building a kind of power that opposes the revolutionary power. The tactic is not new; it was used on the prolegomenon of april’s coup, it was pushing legality and gradually it reached the gates of Miraflores.

The oligarchs led by the faction of the facists capriles-leopoldo move forward in their pro-coup plan. Ignorance of the court order and disobedience to the Supreme Court are a serious step towards the road to the unacquainted with the government, of its legality, it leads to a violent outcome. It is similar to when in a public event they do not follow the enabling legislation. It is a pre-coup. The board of fascism clearly begins to function as a major state of the gringo-occupation.

Only mobilization will stop the coup, it will preserve peace.

The fascist oligarch and the empire must understand that if they dare, if they insist on the game of democratic rhetoric and practice coup, to use the law to prepare its violation, if they persist with april’s game, we will find a formidable wall in the defense of our future. We will not give our Nation.

We will defend peace with the only way possible, by showing the gringos that their plans will turn out so expensive here that they are not viable; that if they dare, the continent will become in a redemptive flame, it will not be more boundary that the dignity of peoples, we all will be brothers, the whole continent that condemns imperialists and their lackeys. Then, the fire of decorum will forge our Great Motherland, the one that liberators dreamed of.

THE INVASION HAS BEGUN

In front of our candid noses the empire’s invasion has begun. They develop the phase of manipulation of minds. They use their expertise in distortion of reality, in creating fictions. With the primary elections, they created the image of a presidential victory, when it was only a simulation of the electoral reality, a reality show where they could not lose, any outcome will be favorable.

Analysis should go beyond the anecdotal, the numbers do not matter, the trap does no matter, the important thing is to understand the ideological current that moved there, who impose, what is the characteristic of the battle ahead.

To the empire any candidate worked but, paraphrasing Orwell, some served more than others, and it was, manipulation, arrangements, worked perfectly, the retrogrades, the snobs joined and left in the field the ancient pact of punto fijo, the social democracy. capriles defeated Pablo, what does this mean?

The empire chose the bloody path to face Chavez; they are getting ready for it. To these agents we face, they are the beachhead for an invasion that is already developing. We live similar days to the days during the Independence, the confrontation is the same; we face a stateless oligarchy serving a foreign empire. Today as before, the Bolivarian are opposed to an empire: yesterday was the spanish monarchy, and today the capitalist gringo.

It is necessary to defeat in their manipulative attempts, we must redouble efforts to toughen our social base, barrios, workers, peasants, they all must understand the huge difference of what capriles represents, and what Chavez represents.

Capriles means loss of Independence and, without Independence that left us so much sacrificially the Liberator, there is nothing. We will be colony of international organizations, the days of spiritual and material misery will come back again, days of helplessness for the poor, the love and hatred will be back.

With Commander Chavez there will be Motherland and with it everything can be solved, everything can be reached, everyone will have shelter. There will be life.

The options are clear and defined: let the anti-motherland vote for capriles, whose hearts are in the north, the mercenaries of consumerism and selfishness. Vote for Capriles is surely treason.

For Chavez will vote who defends Motherland, Independence. In our hands will not be repeated San Pedro Alejandrino, we will complete Bolivar’s dream, we will defend Chavez.

READING REALITY

In politics a mistaken reading of reality is fatal, it leads to the defeat: carlos andres perceived wrongly his victory in the elections, and days after his investiture, the caracazo came. Lenin was right in his thesis of April and eight months after the October Revolution happened, the Soviet Union was born.

We are in the middle of a strong turbulence that began on February the 4th, when the oligarchic domination system found its political opponent, and although it was able to solve the contingency, it did not prevent the rise of Revolution.

We still live that turbulence: not even oligarchy manages to restore its hegemony, or consolidates Revolution; the winds of the struggle agitate the seas of society. It is necessary that revolutionaries read wisely and carefully the signs of times, only in this way we can adjust the course. If we remain blind to the signs, if we fail into its opportune interpretation, then we will be surprised by the slap of reality. Let's see.

The primaries of the retrograde, of the oligarchs are a sign of the intention of the old which refuses to die; they look like if they were take straight out from the dusty attic from the history museum. They staged a show of political onanism, they followed the script set by the gringo embassy and chose the candidate of fascism and anti-motherland.

Surveys tell us that we are doing well; triumphalism must be controlled, because, as Yogi Berra said, "the game is not over untill it is over”.

In addition to this election, which is fundamental, we find signs that we must study carefully and do not underestimate, we have to go to the roots and establish relationships. The events of la piedrita from 23 de Enero community, the protests of those victims dignified by Revolution and, finally, the loss of the reform. Let’s consider.

These three facts indicate that there are flaws in the theory that guides our practice. We noticed and we face those who say that failures should be left under the carpet. The biggest damage that can be done to Revolution is to hide the flaws, let them grow.

Practice tells us that we are not getting the expected results. The victims have been treated with such love, as it was never imagined that a government could give to the humble people. They were never left homeless not even a minute. Those dignified attack the government that supported them, not because they claim or protest because they were treated badly, but they attack because they do not get their houses faster! There are flaws within the theory that guides practice.

La piedrita formed a separated nation, it is called "la piedrita" and, indeed, it keeps good relations with Venezuela and its government.

The reform has the same root, the fact is known to all.

The three signs indicate that we have not overcome selfishness within the masses, on the contrary, we have stimulated with material rewards and isolated organizational forms, without organic connection with society and neglecting the moral consideration.

SPECIAL PERIOD

One of the most important lessons of the Cuban Revolution is the behavior of that society and its leaders against the collapse of Soviet Socialism. Let's see.

The Cuban economy fell 85% overnight, a blow from which nobody expected recovery, everybody sensed the fall of Fidel's work, some with joy, others with sadness.

But the miracle happened, the Cuban Revolution resisted and preserved the Socialist ideal, thus preserving the possibility of the world’s salvation from capitalist greed, which undoubtedly leads us to hell.

Cuba decree a Special Period that is important to study, in view to the economic difficulties.

That Special Period was caused by scarcity, then it was needed to toughen the moral forces of People, information, social organizations, and the political vanguard, so the People will not give their dignity and Revolution for a "bowl of lentils" .

Economic emergency plans were done, the central planning worked, which is how society takes account of their destiny, their resources, and put them where they need them the most. This way were preserved the main social programs, economy was rationalized, children and the elderly were protected, no one was left behind.

One of the main lessons of that experience is that the socialist society through central planning and the popular initiative overcmes any adversity. Society, the individual and the State intertwined in a common effort overcome the major difficulty that a people has ever suffer in times of peace.The other main experience was the effort that was hold on the Social Duty Awareness. Leaders and the people appealed to the best fiber inherited from the liberators of Cuba, relied on the examples of Martí and the epic of the Sierra Maestra.

The people was called for the sacrifice that founds and preserves, and responded guided by the example of their liberators.

We believe that that Special Period, arising from the dramatic shortcomings, were characterized by the danger of individual outputs, as a ground opportune for selfish temptation.

But there is and there never will be a "market" to pay the sacrifice and the delivery of millions of men for an ideal. That is why the importance of the Battle of Ideas, the battle for the reaffirmation of the of the Social Duty Awareness.

Here in Venezuela, and paradoxically, we are also in a Special Period of oil prosperity, which makes us suitable land for selfish temptation.

The danger is the same, Revolution is lost by selfishness, that is the base of capitalist ideology, but there the shortage arose, and here arises abundance.

So, the way to attack the situation is the same: to call the People to sacrifice what founds and preserves, and with the example of Liberators, to toughrn their moral forces, deepen the Social Duty Awareness, efficiency and information, Faith within Socialism, horror to the oligarchic capitalism.

THE GREAT WEAPON

Revolution’s main weapon is the theory, ideology and subjectivity. The great revolutionaries have seen it, the Liberator told us: "morality and enlightenment are our primary needs", "an ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction". Marti talked us about the trenches of ideas.

We say that a Revolution can only be defeated if it is defeated earlier within the ideas, within ideologies. The main battle occurs in the world of ideas.

Those who undertake the revolutionary path should be aware that everything will elucidate, ultimately, the world of thinking. There is where the course of revolution is decided. Let’s never forget, as Gramsci believed, that the most powerful of the objective forces of human civilization is subjectivity.

With the gained experience by the world’s revolution, we know that Revolutions in power get to a point where they lose the excitement that unite their masses; the passion that ignited the fire in the early days of the revolutionary commotion gave way to the paralysis of habit, to the bureaucratic needs. Mobilizations can be massive but soulless, with no creativity; numbers can be high, but they do not reflect the loss of spiritual energy. And that does not belong to society.

The sad spectacle of the fall of the Soviet Union and China illustrates this. They did it with no shame or glory. Today, the tangled sophisms that put forward to dress of Socialism to these kings are pathetic, and we know they are the most naked of capitalisms.

We face a limit within the course of the World’s Revolution: As it moves away from the nucleus that originated it, from the events and its primitive actors, they are worn down until restoration.

Why? Where is the flaw? How to avoid it?

According to the experience of the world’s revolution, somewhere the way was missed, and that mistake was, as we now know, in theory. Measures that stimulated selfishness were justified, economic forms that supported that spirituality were created.

We add that the system of needs was not enough changed, the vision of the world was not able to replace and the Awareness of Social Duty could not be render sacred, which is the spiritual foundation of Socialism.

The issue deserves reflection and critique, consider the signs of reality, transforming them into a theory that guides and gives meaning to practice. Theory without practice is as bad as practice without theory.

We must create and discover the theoretical weapons that reinforce Revolution. We can do it, there is already a world’s revolutionary experience, now it is essential to thorough study and criticism, irreverent and loyal. We can not make the mistakes of past revolutions, always go forward and be more and more socialists, let’s not make concessions, "not even this little” to capitalism.

Let’s follow the mandate of the greats, study, ideas, they must guide the practice and this has value as it transformes the world.

WHERE DOES SOCIALISM LAY?

The planet’s situation is dramatic, capitalism is stronger than ever, it walks wracked by thousand contradictions, it drags crisis, and it has more problems than ever, but paradoxically without any ideology that faces it. This moves the planet, led by the hand of capitalism towards the destruction of the balance of life.

The most advanced governments in the world, the most sensible, denounce the aggressions against the environment, the danger of keeping the path towards capitalism, the suicidal of their paradigms is to continue consuming and producing with the craziness that we it do today. But, without explanation no one, no government does anything to change course of it.

Just an indicative, it is expected that the oil consumption will get to the limits of natural crime, it is expected about 200 million barrels a day and it projects an upward curve. The countries are preparing to participate in the funereal feast, which means the extinction of the species. We can measure the level of insanity of the species by the level of oil consumption, because of its tendency and volume.

We must conclude that despite the agreements, summits, the tendency is to increase insanity, consumption and waste of natural resources.

Thus, we must say it one more time, Socialism is life or death. However, there are a thousand ways of Socialism, each country wants to do their own, and many are mere reforms. But, how can we know which of those thousands goes on the right track?

Today the main measure must be the rescue of harmony with nature, which is the most important feature of Socialism, rather than the elimination of surplus value, the hegemony of private property, and the establishment of an awareness of loving relations. Harmony with nature is more important, our life goes with it, if we do not rescue harmony with nature or extinction will condemn us. Harmony can not be achieved without Socialism, it includes, supposes, all its other characteristics.

Thus, beyond the names, now in the world some say, of the adjectives most often clarifying mask, above the names are the facts, the changing relationship with nature, that is the importance Socialism Main today.

Socialism is the only hope of mankind, it is the only way to conquer the masses for change of world view, and this is a prerequisite for establishing new relationships with nature. This change of view, this possibility of new relationships is what, today, justifies the Socialism.

No society can be assumed to be a socialist without deep contrast to the rest of the world, if you keep eating, wasting gasoline, electricity, measuring progress by the number of cars, the economy by GDP and ignoring the limits of development, packed in large megalopolis.

The challenge is to find our socialism, make it practical, to astonish and guide the world. Either we do or the nature redeems your balance ... without us.

"Progress is not genocide, it is collateral damage. If we look at all that the human species has achieved, we will have to accept that it has been more beneficial than evil. Computers, airplanes, cars, large mega cities are a monument of creativity of life. We can travel faster than ever, there is no place on the planet forbidden to progress; the creative hand of man comes to the poles where there are cruise ships sailing in what used to be ancient ice.

This year, we emerged from the crisis and we started again the path of economic growth.

We conclude that, what human has created -from the pyramids, to the twin towers- justify that some species disappear, or the sea and sky get a bit dirty”.

The Court deliberates and produces the sentence, the faces were grim, mournful, and they were ready to read it when the voice of an old man stopped and asks to be heard.

The discussion takes several minutes, but given the finality of the judgment, it was decided to let the old-bearded-man talk:

“I have dedicated my entire life to the defense and recovery of this unique species in the world. It does not have a certain condition, the human condition depends on how it is organized, it is able to create idols and surrender to their feet. The accusations of this Court are heard as true, we become a genocide species; dangerous ... we deserve the punishment of extinction that surely contains the sentence.

However, this species deserves an opportunity, it is true, it gathers all the bad things that the Prosecutor’s Office has said, and it has shown its arrogance and pedantry on the absurd arguments of the defense. But, it is also true that this is species victim of a monster: capitalism, which is the real culprit, the one who turned the species into a plague.

We respectfully request, in honor to an entire history of struggles against the monster, (do not forget that years ago we denounced in Rio de Janeiro the threat of extinction of this species;, we ask to give to men of good will a chance, and that the sentence is postponed for few years, we promise to build a world where nature is respected, a socialist world”.

We do not know the outcome of the meeting, sometimes it seems that they granted the extension, and sometimes not. Will the Court be waiting for our behavior?

THE HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF CHAVEZ

When the history seemed to be stopped and the revolutionary theorists invented shortcuts to change of coat, when the people watched slide their leaders, the future was on the ground and high flight was a crazy thing.

In those days of the end of history, of fukuyamas and tonis Negris, of riots that did not destroy or build, of "we are, but not that much", of "capitalism is not bad, we just need to control abusers", in those times where humanity fell into the darkness of conformity and the Quixote sheltered on an heroic island, in those days the miracle occurred and it was called Chavez.

The vast historical dimension of Chavez is hard to capture by his contemporaries, the everyday and evilness cloud the historical comprehension. Let's see.

The socialist cause was crushed by a multitude of distracting theories, the eurocommunism had sealed the capitulation of Europe, and similar theories emerged on the planet. The Soviet Union, China, evolution into its opposites, capitalism dominated through the world. Only the lonely voice of the Caribbean Prophet shouted from his island warning that the world ran towards its destruction.

In this environment, a breach on the domination system that was established by capitalists occurred, a fracture on the bourgeois electoral system, which manages to hold the masses spellbound and legitimize the agents of capitalism.

On February the 4th, a government established in bourgeois elections, was not recognize due to a fact of force of revolutionary character; which is equivalent to 1810, when a consecrated monarchy was not recognized by God. This was the first historical event. Then Chavez, a disobedient candidate to the oligarchies, who wins the elections designed to prevent such triumphs.

From there the miracle displays: the government declares itself anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist and anti-socialist! This position was a flash in the worldwide darkness that murdered the possibility of life. The world's eyes were fixed in the country who dared to reach out the Socialism arm and break the unanimity of conformity.

If we accept that humanity inevitably dies under capitalism, we will realize the extraordinary importance of the actions of Chavez: he reopened the path to the socialist hope, in other words, the path towards the salvation of humanity.

The road has not been easy; all the forces of the capitalist empire have conspired against hope. Confusion has been sown, deviations are proposed and the fascist vultures hovering looking for weaknesses.

Now it is necessary to continue with the miracle, it is imperative that Socialism is performance in a new relationship between man and nature, and that the notion of harmony prevails over the harmful notion of development. It is necessary and vital to rebuild the loving relation between humans, it is necessary to rethink the needs and the way to satisfy them. If we do not do it, restoration will come and the flame will extinguish.

The lightning that broke the darkness must be protected, it should not cease.
